Kahu Popoki
def: to care for our cats.
WHY ARE WE HERE
Every day many of our Ohana (families) here on Hawai’i Nei struggle with;
-
- Spay and Neuter for Cats that is unaffordable resulting in an explosion of kittens,
- Vet Care that is unaffordable,
- Pet Cat food that is unaffordable,
- Rentals that don’t accept Pet Cats.
The result is PET CATS they can’t care for (an estimated 3,500 plus cats per year) that causes
Cat Rescues, Cat Fosters, and Adoption groups to become extremely overwhelmed.
These PET CATS are then dumped at Shopping Centers, Rubbish Transfer Stations, Parks, etc.
by our friends and family who desperately hope someone can help care for these cats.
This is the source of Community Cats (feral, stray, pets, lost, dumped, etc.) that live in
colonies.
Please know that our goal is to reduce the number of Community Cats to ZERO!
WE ARE FOCUSED ON
Support Pet Cat Owners with increased access to the
following;
a. Free and low-cost spay/neuter,
b. Low-cost veterinarian services,
c. Require landlords to allow pets with standardized security deposits,
d. Fund food banks to support cat owners in need.
Support Community Cats (feral, strays, lost, dumped,
etc.) to stabilize their numbers and reduce to zero over time;
a. Fix (spay/neuter) Community Cats with “Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return,
Manage” programs referred to as TNVR,
b. Adopt out socialized Cats,
c. Manage Cat Colonies with trained and registered professionally trained Stewards
who care for the cats, help keep them fixed, and feed them to keep impact and
predation of wildlife to a minimum,
d. Fund moving Cat Colonies in sensitive areas away from critical species such as
Nene and Monk Seals,
e. Support a network of Fosters, Mini-Cat Sanctuaries, and Large Sanctuaries that
can foster cats for Adoption giving our Ohana members a home for their Pet Cats
when needed.
WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT !!! TOGETHER WE CAN BRING THE COMMUNITY CAT POPULATION DOWN TO ZERO!
